Matt Siltala and Jay McCoy were doing a welfare check on an elderly resident on June 6th. When the patrolman spoke with the resident, he asked her why her yard was so unkempt. She explained that she doesn’t have anyone to mow her yard for her and in that very instant Siltala grabbed her mower and cut the front yard. McCoy took a photo of Siltala hard at work and the sweet moment of the officer helping the older woman has quickly spread across social media. “We have had a few people inquire about helping this resident,” they wrote. “We will do some checking and get back to those who have shown interest. It’ll be a few days though.” A followup comment from the department revealed that they were exploring ways they could help the elderly woman. “We have had a few people inquire about helping this resident. The E-Tron is new for 2019 and 1,644 vehicles are being recalled due to a bad seal that can let moisture into the battery compartment and potentially cause a short which could start a fire. At the time of publication, there were no real-world reports of incidents where a fire occurred or accidents that happened as a result of the bad seal. Protecting the property value of your home, cars, and personal items is just part of the equation in pricing insurance. Other items such as past claims, credit score or your driving record can influence the price or even a declination. It’s understandable to most why you need to check out your driving record for traffic tickets and DUIs. The ACLU is not going to come to your defense because your driving record was reviewed. Traffic ticket history generally lasts five years, so eventually your tickets and accidents begin to fall off with good behavior. In many states a basic traffic infraction can be taken care of by taking an online course and paying the ticket, but that doesn’t erase it from your record. If you feel you need to expunge your record, you’ll need to take the time to go to court and elect the traffic course as your civic option and your record will be clean. After all, if you have a lead foot or you’re constantly driving while intoxicated, your risk to the insurance company is significant. But most people are surprised to learn that insurance companies are looking at your creditworthiness. It’s not a hard credit check, Read more…
California will likely become the first state to provide healthcare to some illegal immigrants. Those eligible for Medi-Cal, which is the states Medicaid program, must be between the ages of 19 and 25 be considered low-income adults living in the country illegally. Anthony Wright, the executive director of the advocacy group Health Access, stated that further expansion of this program could come in the future. The full legislature must still be approved and lawmakers have until Saturday to approve the budget or face losing their pay. To fund a portion of this program, the state will begin taxing people who don’t have health insurance, which is similar to what President Barack Obama’s health care law did that was eliminated in 2017 with the overhaul to the tax code. Republicans on the legislative committee have voted against the proposal stating that it is unfair to give health benefits to those who are in the country illegally while taxing people who are legal residents of the state who have not purchased coverage.
