Measles, once common in the US prior to aggressive vaccination campaigns that started in the 1960s, is back on the rise. A decade ago, there were less than 100 cases a year. In 2019, we are not even to the half way point and have nearly 1,000. Overall, across the US vaccinations have remained high, but we are seeing pockets of outbreaks that are happening in specific communities where parents have refused the recommended shots, according to U.S. health officials. Dr. Mark Roberts, chair of health policy and management at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health said “What’s causing these outbreaks is lack of vaccination.” While illnesses have been reported across the US, totally 26 states, the vast majority of the illnesses are in New York City. The outbreak began around October of 2018 and it is already the largest localized measles outbreak in the United States in nearly 30 years. Measles, as an illness, is incredibly contagious which is also not helping to limit the number of non-vaccinated people getting sick. The CDC is recommending a combination vaccine that covers measles-mumps-rubella for everyone ages 1 year and up so long as you have not had the Read more…

Street Sign Warning Drivers About Child with Autism Vandalized in Garden City Michigan
A neighborhood street sign that warned drivers passing through to be aware of a child with autism was vandalized over a simple choice of words. Austin Sharon, who is six, of Garden City Michigan was diagnosed with autism at an early age, but as he grew older, he began to run out of his front door without his parents approval. As a result, the family added extra locks and an alarm system to their home to help better monitor and protect Austin. Last year, the family installed two street signs at each end of their street that read, “Autistic Child in Area.’ What was intended to be even more peace of mind for the family, ended up offending someone because on Monday, the mother noticed that one of the sings had been vandalized. Tape was placed over “Autistic Child In Area” and new words that read “Child with Autism in Area”. As more and more light is shed on autism and how if affects children and even adults, many who are part of the community or have siblings, relatives, or friends that have autism prefer the terminology ‘person with autism’ as opposed to ‘autistic person’. The reason for this is Read more…
Costco Does A Double Take As One Of Its Stores Records $400,000 Purchase
Costco’s (NASDAQ: COST) CFO Richard Galanti is surely happy about the latest news coming from one of its stores. Costco had to do a double take after seeing a single purchase that was recorded at nearly $400,000 (yes, that’s 5 zeros). What was the purchase? A single diamond ring. The sale of such a high priced item was significant for the chain. Costco has nearly 500 diamond rings for sale on its website, with the highest being priced at $419,000. While most people aren’t spending that kind of money on an engagement ring, the recipient of such a ring will surely be delighted. As a result of this expensive purchase as well as other big-ticket items “like golf simulators that sold for $14,000 each” Galanti explains, Costco saw a nice bump in quarterly earnings.

Tesla Has Worst Ever Start To A Year with Musk Losing $4.9 Billion
To say Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) was having a rocky start in 2019 would be an understatement. To date, the stock has tumbled 43% this year slashing $4.9 billion from the value of Elon Musk’s stake the company. Wall Street is seemingly doubtful about consumer demand for the company’s electric vehicles. This drop in value represents a total loss of $7.8 billion from the stakes of Tesla’s four biggest shareholders – Musk, Tencent Holdings Ltd., Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and Larry Ellison, with $2.7billion dropping off in May alone. Not contributing to the stock is Tesla’s delay in Model 3 deliveries as well as recurring news of autopilot crashed.

When the shirt arrived, the graphic she ordered was printed on the shirt, but just below the frogs were the words “F*** THE POLICE”. The mother has stated that while the shirt certainly doesn’t represent her daughter’s views of the police, she has found the entire situation amusing. The order was placed using AliExpress, and Williamson has used the service before and never had an issue with previous orders.

NHTSA To Investigate If GM Recall Over 1.4 Million Vehicles To Fix Dangerous Seat Belts Was Effective
General Motors recalled over 1.4 million of its vehicles which included the Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook SUVs with model years of 2009 to 2014 over a seatbelt issue. The flexible steel cable connecting the front seat bels of the vehicle could separate which would result in the potential to not restrain the passenger in the event of a crash. GM dealers were to inspect cables and replace as necessary if the vehicle was determined to have the defective part. However, one of the complaints that came from a man in Dayton, Ohio had said that the seat belt had snapped when his wife was fastening it, even though it had been recalled in 2014. Chevrolets response to the issue was that it was “normal wear and tear.” NHTSA has said that it will now assess the effectiveness of the recall and evaluate the durability of the cables that were supposedly replaced.
